Maintenance Manager

This position is located in our Montgomery, Alabama facility.

MAINTENANCE MANAGER

Direct the maintenance programs and processes and coordinate activities of workers engaged in the installation, upkeep, preventive maintenance and repair of the mechanical, plumbing, chemical processing, chemical laboratory, carpentry, electrical, pneumatic, electronic, PLC, CNC, and similar facilities equipment. Manage and maintain adequate levels of spare parts.

Essential Functions:
  1. Review maintenance work orders to ascertain maintenance requirements and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations and determine the availability of material, components, equipment, supplies and tooling, submitting requisition to Purchasing for required items.
  2. Plan and schedule department’s work, establishing priorities and sequence of operations, assuring the timely, coordinated and effective utilization of available resources to see that work is completed according to plan, schedule and specifications, keeping supervisor, associated departments, and other shifts informed of significant developments.
  3. Confer with other managers & supervisors to coordinate maintenance activities to ensure that production and quality of products meet specifications.
  4. Recommend measures to improve maintenance methods, equipment performance, and quality of product, and suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of department.
  5. Using maintenance planning software, plan, coordinate and implement procedures to increase departments efficiency and ability to strategically impact organizational efficiency, effectiveness, profitability, or other measures of organizational success.
  6. Supervise projects and workers on handling all electrical requirements to ensure compliance with all governmental regulations.
  7. Supervise workers, to include orientation, communicating company policy and procedures, training; conduct performance reviews, assigning and checking work to ensure compliance with guidelines; analyze and resolve work problems or assist workers in solving work problems; conduct investigation of work related injuries or accidents; recommend personnel actions such as hiring, rate increases, promotion, and disciplinary measures; counsel with Human Resources to ensure proper documentation and compliance with company policy.
  8. Develop and carry out the Total Preventive Maintenance plans & schedule for the facility.
  9. Prepare estimates and quotations and make recommendations for existing equipment improvements, repairs and utilization.
  10. Monitor and maintain on-hand inventory or repair parts and expendable tooling and supplies; submit requisition to Purchasing for required items.
  11. Draft weekly department status report and submit to the Plant Manager.
  12. Prepare and control departmental annual budget.
  13. Ensure safety rules and regulations are followed and work areas are kept in a clean and orderly condition.
Position Qualification Requirements:

Knowledge/Experience/Ability: Must have worked in a Lean or Continuous Improvement environment and fully understand, support, and be able to drive these initiatives within the Maintenance Department. Requires a thorough knowledge of equipment maintenance and supervisory practices along with the ability to apply these principles to solve practical problems and deal with situations where only limited standardization exists. A minimum of 3 years of experience maintaining hydraulic presses and mechanical punch presses. Highly organized professional with strong organizational, problem solving, resource management and creative at planning time utilization skills. Experience in project cost analysis and departmental budgeting. Strong team building skills with excellent communications and interpersonal skills; willingness to listen. Visionary, with energy and drive to succeed. Willing to take charge and work long hours as required to complete projects and planned maintenance activities. Five plus years of maintenance supervisory experience managing eight or more maintenance technicians required prior to entry into position. Computer proficient with windows environment, MRP, MS Office, Outlook, and a maintenance management software. Experience with iMaintenance software is preferred.

Education: Associates degree or two years of college in related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids: General maintenance equipment, small hand tools, forklift.

Licenses Required: Alabama Driver’s License.

Physical Activities/Demands: Normal manufacturing environment which requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and see. May involve the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects of up to 60 pounds, infrequently. Working Conditions: Working conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

1. Worker exposed to temperatures sufficiently high and low to cause bodily discomfort.
2. Worker exposed to sufficient noise above the ambient noise level.
3. Worker exposed to hazards such as moving mechanical parts and electrical current.
4. Worker exposed to atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, and dust but not to the extent of being disagreeable.
5. Worker’s skin exposed to oils but not strong enough to be disagreeable.
6. Worker will be required to wear safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection and other PPE as required by OSHA regulations or company policy.
